How much can you get for unused Dexcom sensors?

G6 and G7 sensors are the most valuable item in the diabetic supply resale market. Here's what they're actually worth.

Dexcom sensors are consistently the highest-value item in the diabetic supply resale market. If you have unused G6 or G7 sensors sitting in a drawer, you could be looking at $40–$80 per box depending on a handful of factors. Here's how it breaks down.

What a box of Dexcom sensors is worth

These are typical ranges you can expect from a reputable mail-in buyer in 2025. Actual offers vary by buyer and market conditions:

DME vs retail matters. Sensors labeled "DME" (durable medical equipment) or "Mail Order" typically get lower offers than retail-labeled boxes — often $10–$20 less per box — because the resale market for them is narrower. Check the REF code on the side of the box to identify yours.

The four factors that drive your offer

1. Expiration date

This is the single biggest variable. A box with 18 months remaining is worth significantly more than the same box with 4 months. Most buyers require at least 3 months to expiration to make any offer at all. The sweet spot is 12+ months — that's where you get top-dollar rates.

2. G7 vs G6

G7 sensors command higher prices because they're the current generation and in higher demand. G6 sensors still have a strong market — many patients stay on G6 because their insurance covers it specifically, or they prefer the separate transmitter system — but G7 gets the premium.

3. Quantity

Selling in bulk (10+ boxes) gets you better per-box rates with most buyers. If you have a large quantity, mention it when requesting a quote — it often unlocks a bulk pricing tier.

4. Box condition

The box must be factory-sealed with no tears, stains, water damage, or crushed corners. Cosmetic damage to the box — even if the sensors inside are untouched — reduces offers significantly or disqualifies the shipment entirely.

Why Dexcom sensors hold their value

Retail Dexcom G7 sensors cost approximately $190 per sensor, or around $570 for a 3-pack, without insurance. With many insurance plans covering only partial costs — and some people having no CGM coverage at all — there's strong demand for below-retail sensors. That demand is what makes the secondary market viable and gives your unused boxes real cash value.

Don't let expiration erode your offer. A box of G7 sensors losing 6 months of shelf life can cost you $20–$30 per box. If you know you have sensors you won't use, get a quote now.
